Mercedes-Benz held the top spot since 2013, but there’s a new best-selling luxury auto brand in Canada
Cumulative Canadian new vehicle sales of premium auto brands remained above 200,000 units in 2022 despite market-wide headwinds. Against a backdrop of an inventory crunch, rising prices, and climbing interest rates, luxury auto brands actually reported a collective decrease of just 4 per cent from 2021 levels, half the rate of decline reported by the auto industry at large.
Yet that sort of sharp decrease — and no, Jaguar and Land Rover weren’t the only brands to suffer significant declines — were almost entirely counteracted by some fairly impressive growth figures. As a result of growth generated by half of the members of the top 10, the premium auto sector drove its combined market share to 14 per cent, up from 13 per cent a year ago and 12 per cent in pre-pandemic 2019.
