The brands third EV seems like yet another success story for Genesis—who dares to doubt Genesis after this?
The Genesis’ Power Playbook
Heavier, but quiet and smooth
If you thought this would leave the GV70 feeling crashy and stiff like the GV60 Performance, you’d be wrong. The electrically controlled suspension system has a road preview system that can sense the road surface and adjust the damping to improve the ride. Our test drive of over 240 km around the Atlanta area helped us get a feel for the new electric crossover, and the ride stood out as a highlight.
The powertrain is delightfully smooth and loaded with power. The car whisks away to highway speeds in no time, feeling more responsive than the gas-powered example. Like the GV60, the electrified GV70 features a Boost button, which bumps the combined output of the motors to 483 hp for 10 seconds. It’s not like the car needs an extra jolt to make a pass, but it is a thrilling experience that’ll impress passengers — as long as you warn them ahead of time.
Getting it all
Seven years in, Genesis is constantly proving itself in the tightly contested field of luxury automakers. Despite nearly every vehicle boasting critical acclaim, we still feel surprised every time. The electrified GV70 shows that the brand’s efforts aren’t exclusive to its gas products, and its EVs deserve just as much attention as the rest of its portfolio.
