A co-founder of the Canadian Human Rights International Organization (CHRIO) in Toronto faces sex charges.
Toronto Police reported Jose Mario Guilombo, 64, faces five charges of sexual assault and two of forcible confinement.
An Ontario woman was allegedly sexually assaulted, between Feb. 25, 2023 and March 1, 2023, during meetings with Guilombo, an immigration consultant, at CHIRO’s office, located at 1275 Finch Ave. W., according to police.
“There were four separate incidents — two of which she felt she couldn’t leave whether it be a position of authority, ruse, different types of things,” alleged Const. Victor Kwong, who added that according to the accusations, five sexual assaults occurred during four meetings.
A CHRIO spokesperson offered no comment on the charges, saying, “the matter is before the courts. And they’re just allegations.”
On its website, CHRIO is described as “a non-profit organization working in the field of human right issues founded in 2003 in Toronto, Ont., Canada, and was born out of necessity to support hundreds of victims of armed conflict, in support of refugees, displaced persons, and their relatives that were unable to leave their countries of origin.”
CHRIO’s stated mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in need.”
