Summary: Goldilocks would love the Arctic Luxe Hybrid Mattress. It’s not too hard or soft, but just right. Unless you have specific sleep issues, the Arctic Luxe Hybrid offers enough support, cushion and comfort. It looks and feels like a hybrid mattress from a brick-and-mortar, and with the convenience of at-home purchasing and delivery, it is worth the price and is ($1,650 – on sale for $1,450). The cooling is subjective. It’s definitely cooler than traditional hybrid mattresses but in order to truly get the full effect, it would be wise to also purchase a Hush mattress protector. If you’re looking for a reliable, comfy and Canadian-made mattress, the Arctic Luxe is a good option.

My experience
This was my first time getting a mattress in a box. The last time I bought a mattress, it was from Sleep Country (which recently acquired 52 per cent of Hush for $25 million). That was more than 10 years ago, required a box spring and the cost was still more than the Hush price (and delivery was not included). This experience exceeded my expectations in terms of ease of purchase, delivery and assembly. It was simple and successful.
It’s simple enough to get the vacuumed-packed mattress from the box to the bed frame. (And no box spring to deal with!) The only issue I had when the mattress unfurled was getting the packing plastic out from under the bed. The mattress expands quickly and sliding out the plastic takes a bit of force and can be a two-person job. This isn’t unique though and this can be a struggle with any boxed beds.
How it feels: The Arctic Luxe is soft and supportive. The pillow top feels like sleeping in a cloud. The Arctic Luxe should be suitable for most side, back, front and combo sleepers.
I’d put the firmness at a 5/10, even though the site says 7.5/10. The edge support, which is how well the perimeter of the bed holds up when you’re close or sitting at the side of it, is adequate.
My favourite features: I love that my box spring is long gone but the mattress is still the same height and offers the same amount of support. I’m new to the mattress-in-a-box life and really appreciate that the Arctic Luxe replaces both the box spring and mattress. If you live in a tight space, have a stairwell to manage or are planning a move, abandoning the box spring is liberating.
I also like the mattress’s generalist appeal. I feel confident recommending this hybrid to most people. I even like how the mattress looks when it’s bare. That’s likely not the most consequential factor for all buyers, but the modern, clean and welcoming look of the mattress is ideal for delivery and laundry days.
My least favourite features: The Arctic Luxe is definitely cooler than a typical hybrid mattress and seemingly retains the coolness all night long. That said, cooling is so subjective to one’s body type and sleeping environment that buying this mattress on that feature alone is not recommended.
