Golf WAG One Paulina Gretzky is still the biggest draw for struggling LIV Golf.
While hubby Dustin Johnson was the controversial Saudi-backed loop’s first champion and top moneymaker last year, the missus is the real queen bee.
At LIV Tucson last weekend, at least one fan appeared more interested in the hockey heiress than the action on the links.
Paulina Gretzky shared a snapshot Saturday on Instagram of a T-shirt worn by a fan who made bones about the fact he found the blond beauty, uh, more interesting than her husband.
Featuring a photo of Paulina in a barely-there bikini, the T-shirt read: “Hey DJ, we came to see Paulina LIV 2023.”
And, just maybe, her husband might have agreed.
Johnson finished 5-under par at LIV Tucson nailing 13th place, just ahead of Taylor Gooch. Danny Lee was the winner of the tournament after defeating Carlos Ortiz and Brendan Steele in a playoff.
Gretzky and Johnson finally married in 2022, after hooking up in 2013, in a star-studded affair at a posh Tennessee resort.
He was one of the first to make the jump to LIV Golf, citing family reasons — and a cool $125-million payout to make the switch. Johnson added to his boffo bucks with $35 million in winnings the first season.
Gretzky said she understood why the move was so controversial.
“Of course, I get what everyone’s saying, but my dad being a hockey player – I’m sure as a kid, there were times when I’m like, ‘Why does my dad have to play on my birthday?’ This is about Dustin and the kids and me and taking care of us and being there with us,” she recently said.
Meanwhile, LIV Golf continues to struggle in its quest for eyeballs causing some to wonder whether the high-priced superstars who jumped to the circuit will eventually pay off.
Its TV ratings have continued to be lacklustre with Golf reporter Kevin Van Valkenburg tweeting: “LIV Golf ratings for the Tucson event. According to a source, it scored a 0.14 overnight rating in 33 markets from Saturday.”
Ouch! And for the second time the CW’s LIV Golf package attracted fewer eyeballs than one of the network’s other programs: World’s Funniest Animals.
