Saskatoon homebuilder Spruce Homes opened a new showhome this week in Grasswood Estates, suited for those seeking a quiet life and room to grow.

Located at 58 Grandview Trail, the 2,006-square-foot bungalow sits on over two acres of land in the new development. The location has quick access to Saskatoon via Highway 11, Clarence Avenue, Lorne Avenue and the south bridge.

“We actually live out here, and there are a ton of young families who live out here,” says Brad Blair of Spruce Homes. Blair says families enjoy the close-knit community while experiencing the best parts of country living.

Surrounded by fields and wild prairie, it’s easy to see the appeal. Nature is prioritized, with all lots connected to a walking path so residents can enjoy the nearby ponds and wetlands.

In addition, South Corman Park School lies within walking distance. A skating rink by the school allows kids to learn to skate in a rink they can walk to.

The neighbourhood has all the perks of country living, while a short seven-minute drive takes residents to the amenities of Stonebridge on Saskatoon’s south end.

This showhome features a new layout for Spruce Homes. The peaked roof in the foyer elevates the space. The sloped ceiling is finished with hardwood planks from Malaysia. Typically, cedar would be used for this type of ceiling cladding, but the hardwood will provide more stability over time.

The drama continues in the living room, where designers positioned a fireplace on the tallest wall as a focal point. The fireplace, surrounded by 20 feet of glossy grey tile, becomes a welcoming gathering point. In addition, the eight-foot windows stacked on top of each other offer a view of the mature neighbouring lots.

The warm, caramel tones of the wood keep the spacious home inviting and cosy. Meanwhile, the kitchen has a contemporary spin with walnut accents and white walls in a minimalistic design.

The unexpected lack of upper cabinets will likely draw some attention.

“When you walk in the kitchen, you go, ‘Where am I going to put all my stuff?’” jokes Blair.

The Spruce Homes design team found a unique way to keep the kitchen functional and clutter-free. A secret wood panel hides a huge walk-in pantry. The entire wall features walnut wood panels, and the sneaky pantry panel is imperceptible from the others. Homeowners will feel like a superhero hiding away small appliances and grocery items.

The primary bedroom is a sumptuous retreat for any homeowner. The completely tiled ensuite is a spacious and posh oasis.

The two spare bedrooms share a jack-and-jill bathroom with a separate water closet.

Mindful design choices continue with a laundry room with direct access from the mud room, meaning muddy children won’t be tracking throughout the house to get to the washing machine.

And in a testament to modern life, the floor plan also includes an office for those lucky enough to work from home in such a bucolic setting.

The Spruce homes showhome is open for viewing every Wednesday through Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. Or visit their website for more information.

The homebuilder is a finalist in six categories at the 2023 Saskatoon and Region Home Builders Housing Excellence Awards.
