Letter: SaskTel plans for cell tower in green space in Warman upsets

A reader believes Warman city council should step in to prevent a cell tower from being located in a green space in the city.

I’m writing to protest the installation of a replacement for an existing 15-metre monopole cell tower in Warman with a 35-metre industrial tower. The proposed installation will be situated along a walking path and waterway in the heart of Crystal Springs community in Warman.

SaskTel chose to inform only the homeowners living within three times the height of the tower. Residents living further away than 100 metres were not advised. There was limited consultation because SaskTel knew there would be opposition.

To consider placing an industrial tower in a residential green space is appalling. There are alternate locations available. The presence of this tower in the proposed location will negatively impact the aesthetics of beautiful residential green space.

It will affect property values and deter buyers from purchasing properties in this area.

The City of Warman has the authority to deny the use of the land for this purpose. I am expecting the mayor and the council of Warman to thoughtfully consider the implications of an industrial tower placed in residential green space.

The safety of cell towers continues to be hotly debated and without even considering the possible adverse effects to human health, this industrial tower has no place in the heart of the Crystal Springs community.

Clearly the City of Warman needs to take a stand against this proposed location and SaskTel needs to recognize that it is not appropriate to place this industrial tower in residential green space.
