The football season is now in the rearview mirror, which means it’s time for 2020-21 high school boys basketball season to tip off this week for 6A, 5A and 4A teams. It’s a realignment year, which means some new faces in some new regions throughout the season.
As the season gets underway, Davis (6A), Olympus (5A) and Ridgeline (4A) have been tabbed as the teams to beat in the Deseret News annual coaches preseason rankings.
Only Davis is a defending state champ, as it beat Westlake in last year’s state title game. Both Olympus and Ridgeline were semifinalists in their respective classification.
Lehi is the defending state champion in 5A, and checks in at No. 2 in this year’s preseason rankings. Cedar City is the defending state champ in 4A, and it begins the year ranked third.
The preseason rankings in 3A, 2A and 1A were released last week as their seasons started a week earlier, with Juan Diego (3A), San Juan (2A) and Panguitch (1A) nabbing the top spots.
