High school girls basketball: Defending state champs Fremont (6A), Springville (5A) and Sky View (4A) begin year ranked No. 1

Here are Deseret News annual coaches preseason rankings fo 6A, 5A and 4A girls basketball.

Familiar faces sit atop the Deseret News high school girls basketball coaches preseason rankings as the season tips off this week.

Defending state champs Fremont (6A), Springville (5A) and Sky View (4A) were the overwhelming favorites as the coaches submitted their ballots ahead of the season.

Lone Peak checks in at No. 2 in the 6A rankings, with Olympus second in 5A and Desert Hills in 4A.

The preseason rankings for 3A, 2A and 1A were released last week with the smaller schools starting a week earlier, with Morgan (3A), Beaver (2A) and Piute (1A) earning the top spots.

2. Lone Peak (19-4)

3. Herriman (23-2)

4. Bingham (18-5)

5. Westlake (16-7)

Others receiving multiple votes: Riverton, Syracuse, Farmington, Davis, Skyridge.

Class 5A

Team (2020-21 record)

1. Springville (22-2)

2. Olympus (19-6)

3. Lehi (20-4)

4. Timpview (17-7)

5. Highland (19-5)

Others receiving multiple votes: Skyline, Bountiful, Viewmont, Maple Mountain, Mountain View, Salem Hills, East, Jordan.

Class 4A

Team (2020-21 record)

1. Sky View (18-6)

2. Desert Hills (20-3)

3. Ridgeline (15-8)

4. Green Canyon (15-6)

5. Pine View (21-3)

Others receiving multiple votes: Cedar City, Crimson Cliffs, Snow Canyon.
