A Georgia man has been charged after allegedly stomping on his spouse's canine, which needed to be euthanized after the assault as a result of extent of its accidents.
Columbus resident Charles Van Pelt, 26, is accused of trapping his spouse's beloved dachshund, Penny, in its pen and stomping on it after driving her to work on January 5, 2022, the Ledger-Enquirer reported.
Because of the assault, the canine suffered seizures, mind harm and severe head trauma. A veterinarian later euthanized Penny as a result of the canine's accidents had been so extreme.
Though the assault came about in early January, Van Pelt was not arrested till Saturday after a neighbor obtained surveillance video of the incident and notified authorities.
The person has been charged with aggravated animal cruelty—a felony offense that comes with a minimal penalty of a 12 months in jail beneath Georgia legislation.
