Senator leaves Conservative caucus over party’s trucker convoy support


A Nunavut senator says he’s left the Conservative caucus as a result of the social gathering hasn’t condemned the trucker convoy in Ottawa.


“I’m a very long time Conservative and I've to say that, I’ve come to the belief immediately that this isn't a caucus I need to be related to, this isn't the social gathering I’ve been a lifelong member of,” Dennis Patterson informed Evan Solomon on CTV Information Channel’s Energy Play.


When Solomon requested if the straw that broke the camel’s again was a lot of his colleagues’ help for the convoy, he responded, “that’s proper.”


Patterson left the Conservative caucus Friday.


“I’m now very disenchanted that I've not seen in our present management a condemnation of the continued lawless occupation, hostage-taking of the downtown core within the coronary heart of our parliamentary democracy,” he informed Energy Play.


Patterson additionally informed Evan Solomon he was supportive of Erin O’Toole’s management of the Conservative social gathering.


The senator stated he plans to remain an energetic Conservative social gathering member to discover a “extra centrist method, progressive method going ahead.” He’s now a member of the Canadian Senators Group.
