The annals of law enforcement in Florida now include a boat thief attempting to escape on a lawnmower.
Fox news reports that Okaloosa County deputies have finally nabbed a wanted man despite his attempts to evade them on a sit-down lawnmower.
Dusty Mobley, 40 — who has previously dodged the law by vanishing into a swamp — was captured Saturday morning at a house in Holt, Fla., according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
Mobley was wanted on warrants pertaining to a $40,000 boat stolen six months ago.
As soon as Mobley saw law enforcement, he floored his John Deere riding lawnmower and attempted to flee the scene.
Mobley was pursued, tased and arrested for his efforts.
He was found to have a revolver on his person, as well as a handcuff key and a pipe containing suspected meth residue.
Back in January, authorities found Mobley on a stolen boat just days after it was taken and tried to speak to him at that time, but he jumped overboard and disappeared into the Florida swamp.
He now faces several charges, including grand theft, grand theft of a vehicle, felony criminal mischief, two counts of resisting an officer, possession of a concealed weapon by a felon, carrying a concealed handcuff key, possession of drug paraphernalia, and felony failure to appear.
He is being held at the Okaloosa County Jail.
