Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect in a hate-motivated mischief probe.
Toronto Police were called on Wednesday around 6:24 p.m. for a hate crime in the Dundas St. W.-McCaul St. area
At around 6:15 a.m., a man was seen using white spray-paint to deface the ‘Couch Monster’ statue — located at the exterior of the Art Gallery of Ontario, at the northeast corner.
Police say anti-Semitic graffiti was located at the front of the sculpture.
The suspect is described as being in his 50s, having a medium build with grey shoulder-length hair and balding with grey and white cropped facial stubble. He was wearing a black T-shirt with a ‘Tobacconist’ logo on the front, a black sleeveless hoodie with faded black and grey jeans, black Adidas sneakers with blue soles, a black-banded wristwatch on each wrist, and was carrying a black drawstring bag.
Police have released an image of the suspect.
Police are also investigating an unrelated incident in the Yonge-St.-Empress Ave. neighbourhood of North York. Cops received a mischief call on Thursday, June 9 around 1:45 a.m. where two men went to three separate locations in the area and allegedly committed anti-Semitic vandalism/graffiti.
The first suspect is described as a 16- to 20-year-old man with a slim build. He was seen wearing all black clothing and a blue face mask.
The second suspect is described as the same age with a medium build. He was seen wearing a dark-coloured hat, a grey long-sleeved shirt and jacket with reflective stripes down the arms, black shorts, black shoes with white soles, and a blue mask.
Police have released images of the suspects.
