Man charged in sex assaults on girls 12, 13

An arrest has been made in a sexual assault investigation.

Two girls aged 12 and 13 were allegedly sexually assaulted on June 24 in a store in the Weston Road and Jane Street area.

Police have now charged Rufus Folkes, 43, of Toronto with two counts of sexual interference.

According to a Toronto Police press release issued in 2012, Folkes was previously arrested for alleged child abduction in the King West and Cowan Avenue area.

At the time it was alleged he attempted to abduct a 10-year-old boy. In that incident, a neighbour intervened after witnessing Folkes grabbing the child and dragging him along the street.

Folks, who was then 33, was charged with assault, attempted abduction of a person under 14 and failure to comply with probation. The outcome of those charges is unknown.

Investigators are concerned there may be more victims in this latest case.
