Maserati is continuing its supercar resurgence with the recent announcement it has a track-only vehicle, codenamed “Project24,” in the works.
Recall that the Italian carmaker just launched the MC20 Cielo, the convertible variant of its MC20 supercar. Clearly, the carmaker has no plans to slow down its momentum as it aims to re-establish itself in the world of performance machines.
Project24 will also apparently share its underpinnings with the new MC20. However, several technical enhancements will stretch its capabilities even further. The ingenious Nettuno V6 engine now straps on new turbochargers, pushing the output to an impressive 740 hp. That’s an increase of 119 hp over the road-legal variant.
The suspension setup has been reworked with racing in mind, and stopping power is provided by a new carbon-ceramic braking system. A host of safety features like the FIA-homologated roll cage and six-point racing safety belt are also on-board, giving drivers the confidence to really stretch the legs of Project24 out on the race tracks.
Weight savings are a priority, and Maserati has set an ambitious target of 1,250 kg for its track-only weapon. Achieving that will translate to a stunning power-to-weight ratio of approximately 1.69 kg/hp, placing it ahead of other track cars like the 2022 Lamborghini Huracan GT3 EVO2.
There is no word yet on the pricing, but you can expect a hefty premium over the CDN$248,000 price tag for the road-legal MC20 coupe. Maserati will only be making 62 examples of Project24. The exclusive track cars will come complete with state-of-the-art tech support and track-specific experiences for the lucky owners.
