Mazda announces Canadian pricing for 2023 CX-5

Mazda Canada has released pricing for the 2023 CX-5, which will start at $30,900 and run to $43,900 when it goes on sale later this summer. The automaker said the five-seater CX-5 is its best-selling vehicle in Canada — it was Canada’s fourth best-selling SUV in the first quarter of 2022.

The price represents an increase of $400 on the base GX trim over 2022, which now gains cylinder deactivation that was previously included only on the trims above it. This fuel-saving technology shuts off some of the engine’s cylinders when full power isn’t needed, such as when cruising at consistent speed.

The 2023 models will also offer new Rhodium White Metallic, a new premium paint colour. All CX-5 pricing is further subject to a $1,950 delivery fee before taxes.

Eight trim levels are available, all with standard all-wheel drive. All trims also include standard driver-assist technologies including adaptive cruise control with stop and go, emergency front braking with pedestrian detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic high-beam headlamps, rain-sensing wipers, and lane-keep assist. All trims now also include Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive), which allows drivers to switch between normal, sport and off-road modes; and all include a 10.25-inch infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a two-year subscription to connected services available through a phone app.

Six of the trim levels — from GS to Sport Design — use a 2.5L four-cylinder engine making 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque and mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. The Sport Design Turbo and Signature trims use a turbocharged 2.5L engine that makes 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque on 87-octane fuel, and up to 256 horsepower on premium-grade fuel.

Depending on the trim, available features include a heated steering wheel, power liftgate, wireless charger, leather upholstery, 360-degree camera, and emergency rear braking.

The 2022 CX-5 earned a Top Safety Pick+ award from the U.S. Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), and Mazda said it is the first vehicle to earn the top “Good” rating in the IIHS’s new-and-tougher side impact crash test. It also earned the top five-star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
