The goals have been pouring in, so Toronto FC has signed Canadian international defender Doneil Henry to help plug the club’s leaky defence.

“Doneil has good experience in the league and can provide us with some backline depth,” TFC head coach Bob Bradley said.

Henry, 29, was waived by LAFC on July 3 and the Reds have signed him through 2022. The Brampton native has been a pro since 2010, playing in Europe and in MLS, including a 21 game stint with the Reds in 2014.

Internationally, Henry has earned 44 caps with the Canadian national team.

With the addition of three Italian international players the past couple of weeks (Lorenzo Insigne, Federico Bernardeschi and Domenico Criscito), as well as midfielder Mark-Anthony Kaye, TFC should have little trouble scoring goals going forward.

However, the club’s defensive play is still a major issue. The Reds have given up 39 goals in 21 MLS games this season, the second most in the Eastern Conference.

A 1-0 loss to CF Montreal last Saturday was the 29th straight MLS match in which Toronto has allowed a goal, equaling the third-longest regular season run in league history. If Toronto allows a goal on Saturday against Charlotte FC, it will equal the second-longest such streak in MLS history (Chivas USA – 30 straight in 2012-13).
