$8.5M illegal cannabis grow-op busted in Port Perry

Durham Regional Police have made arrests after an illegal cannabis grow-op worth $8.5 million was uncovered in Port Perry.

On Wednesday, officers armed with a search warrant busted the grow-op in the area of Hwys. 7 and 12.

Investigators say more than 10,000 illicit cannabis plants were found growing indoors and outdoors. Approximately 250 pounds of dried cannabis in vacuum-sealed bags also were seized.

Police arrested two people at the property who were tending to the plants. They were charged under the Cannabis Act with unauthorized production of cannabis and possession of illicit cannabis.
