A youth has been arrested in a trio of jewelry store robberies that happened in Durham Region last May.
On Thursday, May 12, around 3 p.m. investigators from Central West Division were called to an attempted robbery at the Graziella Fine Jewellery store in the Whitby Mall.
A half hour later, officers from Central East Division were called to a robbery at the Oshawa Centre, at the Paris Jewellers on King St.
In the second robbery, a display case was smashed by one of the suspects, who allegedly stole jewelry and fled the scene.
Later the same afternoon, members of West Division responded to the Pickering Town Centre for a third robbery at the Michael Hill Jewellery store.
At the time of these robberies police issued descriptions of two suspects, noting they were both male, Black, with slim builds, wearing hooded sweaters and had their faces covered.
It was believed the crimes were connected.
On Wednesday, Durham Regional Police announced the arrest of a 17-year-old Scarborough man in connection with the robberies.
He has been charged with robbery, two counts of robbery with an offensive weapon, three counts of wearing a disguise, two counts of failure to comply and two counts of dangerous weapons.
The youth has been held for a bail hearing.
Police continue to look for a second suspect in this ongoing investigation.
