Cannabis search during traffic stop uncovers loaded gun: OPP

Caledon OPP say a routine traffic stop yielded a loaded handgun and charges for four young people.

At around 12:40 a.m. Thursday, an officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Larson Peak Rd. near Learmont Ave.

It was decided to do a search for cannabis and a loaded handgun was uncovered.

The four occupants of the vehicle were arrested.

Ravjit Sanghera, 20, of Caledon, was charged with obstruct peace officer, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with, possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, two counts of possession of firearms or ammunition contrary to prohibition order, and fail to comply with probation order

Jaisal Kumaraguru, 18, of Mississauga, was charged with obstruct peace officer, possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with, and possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

Jelani Griffith, 18, of Brampton, was charged with obstruct peace officer, unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with, possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, failure to comply with release order, an failure to comply with undertaking.

A fourth occupant, a 17-year-old male from Brampton who can’t be named because of their age, was also charged with unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm, possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with. possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, and have care or control of vehicle with cannabis in open original packaging.

The three men were held for a bail hearing in Orangeville while the youth is to appear in court Nov. 28.
