WAY TO GO PIERRE

Thank you so much for (Conservative Leader Pierre) Poilievre’s column in the Toronto Sun (Sept. 11). He has hit all the right notes! Looks like I don’t have to run for PM now. I can only hope that Ontario wakes up and gives him a chance. Keep your promises, Pierre!

(He did indeed hit all the right notes. We are looking forward to the next federal election)

GET CANADA BACK ON TRACK

After listening to the new Conservative leader, I now realize that the Trudeau government has lost its way. When it was first elected, everybody thought Canada was back. It did not take long to realize that the agenda the federal government had was one of total control and playing the public for fools. The new Conservative leader has shown us all in one speech that Canada has lost its way.

(Poilievre talked about important issues that are top of mind for Canadians, like inflation and clean energy — Trudeau doesn’t bother himself with such things)

MANDELA AND THE QUEEN

Re “Woke haters unleash bitter brew of bile on Queen Elizabeth” (Brad Hunter, Sept. 9): According to Nelson Mandela’s private secretary, Mandela and Queen Elizabeth had a warm friendship. He was one of the few people who could address her by her first name. I don’t know if Mandela was woke by modern standards, but his judgment of a person’s morality and racial attitudes is good enough for me. It is true that during the early part of Elizabeth’s reign, the British government engaged in the brutal suppression of several independence movements, but I’m not sure the Queen could have done much to prevent that.

(There is always a time and place for those discussions — the day she passed wasn’t it)

HARSH WORDS

Re “With Charles as king, the magic is gone” (Michele Mandel, Sept. 9): Michele Mandel’s column was a little harsh today, although she is certainly entitled to her opinion. But did she forget Charles was literally forced into a marriage he really did not want? He has wanted Camilla for many years prior to his marriage. He probably didn’t dither as much as he had such opposition from Prince Philip and others. He is happy now, and she will be a good support for him in his new role, which will not be easy. Queen Elizabeth certainly gave her blessing by giving Camilla the Queen Consort title.

(King Charles III has a monumental task ahead of him; we wish him success in his reign)

WHAT A SHOCK

When I was watching the leadership convention on YouTube, I noticed the CBC logo. I turned to TV and found that the coverage was different — the first thing I saw was Liberal cabinet minister Dominic LeBlanc praising his party and attacking Conservatives, before the vote was in. I did not expect that from our state broadcaster. Featuring Liberals at this event is shocking.

(Observers from the other parties usually show up at these sorts of events. So it’s not unusual)
