The Saint John campus of New Brunswick Community College was under lockdown for more than half an hour Tuesday morning.
The lockdown was lifted just before 11:15 a.m., according to a tweet by NBCC.
“Regular activities can resume,” it read.
Shortly after, police said they found “no threats to the safety of students and staff.”
It said “the source of the lockdown message sent to the NBCC’s distribution list” is under investigation.
Heath Sinding, a student at NBCC, said his classroom was on a video call with other campuses around the province when a screen popped up on the board advising of the lockdown.
“We just sat in the classroom for however long it was, and shut the blinds, shut the lights off and just sat there until we got the clear.”
Sinding described the emotions of students inside as calm.
“I didn’t really know what was going on, so I was just kind of wondering,” he said. “They should probably just keep us in the know a little more.”
NBCC first tweeted at 10:20 a.m. that the Grandview campus buildings were under immediate lockdown.
“If you are on-site, assess your situation and RUN – HIDE – FIGHT. If you are off-site, stay away until an “All Clear” notification is issued by First Responders,” read the Tweet.
Saint John Police tweeted shortly before 10:40 a.m. they have responded to the campus for “an unknown problem.”
Just after 10:50 a.m., police tweeted they are investigating, but there were “no signs of threats to safety.”
Later, they tweeted they were still conducting a thorough search.
The “all clear” was given just at about 11:15 p.m. and the lockdown was lifted.
