Candy’s Cabs hit the road in August, marking the launch of a new business and taxi service in Whitecourt.
Owner Candace Kucharchuk started the 24-hour service, offering transportation, designated driver service, airport transportation, hot shot and battery boosting, and pickup and delivery (including liquor).
And, riders get some candy at the end of the trip.
“We’re trying to exceed expectations with customer service,” Kucharchuk said.
“That’s my number one goal, getting people safely there with the best customer service possible.”
Kucharchuk said she founded the business in mid-August, after more than six months of effort getting it ready.
As a server at Crown and Anchor Pub, Kucharchuk said she noticed customers waiting for rides. She saw a need for more taxi services in Whitecourt, to meet demand and bring down wait times.
To launch Candy’s Cabs, Kucharchuk said she had to purchase the vehicles, obtain commercial insurance and recruit Class 4-licenced drivers.
Kucharchuk also began work on securing licensing from Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis for the liquor deliveries.
Currently, Kucharchuk said Candy’s Cabs has three full-time drivers and six part-timers, and she would be interested in recruiting more.
“Things are already really picking up,” she said.
The business also has two vans, christened Louis and Goldie, named after Kucharchuk’s beloved dogs.
Kucharchuk said the vehicles are nice, with leather seats and floor mats.
In addition to offering rides, Kucharchuk said Candy’s Cabs has been busy with food deliveries.
Candy’s Cabs covers Whitecourt and the surrounding area, with airport transportation offering rides all the way to Edmonton.
So far, Kucharchuk said making the business available 24 hours hasn’t been an issue, as drivers have been working in shifts.
“I feel it’s very important someone’s available at all times,” she said.
“You never know what’s going to happen.”
Kucharchuk said as Candy’s Cabs has taken off, customer response has been positive.
