Toronto flyer facing interference with flight crew charge in U.S.

A 20-year-old Toronto man is facing serious charges of interference with a flight crew stemming from a July 24 incident on a Porter Airlines flight from Newark, N.J. to Billy Bishop airport.

Sebastian Bien-Aine was indicted by a federal grand jury on July 26.

U.S. Attorney Gerard M. Karam says the indictment alleges that Bien-Aine was a passenger on Porter Airlines Flight 134 when he left his seat and charged the flight deck door and attempted to enter.

The incident ultimately required the plane to land in Avoca, Penn, where Bien-Aine was taken into custody by the FBI, which investigated the case.

The maximum penalty under U.S. federal law for this offence is 20 years of imprisonment, a term of supervised release, and a fine.
