Man, 71, charged with murder after woman found stabbed in burning Vaughan home

A 71-year-old man is facing murder and arson charges after police say a woman was found with stab wounds inside a burning home in Vaughan.

York Regional Police say officers were called to help with a structure fire near Parktree Drive and Lucena Crescent on Friday night around 7:45.

Inside the house, officers found a woman unresponsive. She was transported to hospital and was pronounced dead.

A post-mortem exam confirmed 64-year-old Naheed Askaryar died from stab wounds.

Mohammad Askaryar was arrested Friday and is charged with first-degree murder and arson endangering life.
