Suspect sought in shooting probe runs across Hwy. 401 before arrest

A suspect wanted in connection with a shooting investigation fled on foot across Hwy. 401 before being arrested on Wednesday afternoon.

The investigation led Toronto Police to the Hwy. 401 westbound express lanes at Keele St.

It was linked to a shooting investigation in the Bellamy Rd. N. and Ellesmere Rd. area at 1 p.m.

The initial report was for shots fired. Police say they located a man with a non-life threatening gunshot wound.

A suspect vehicle was seen by police and followed onto the highway.

An alleged suspect fled on foot when pulled over and ran across the highway’s eastbound lanes to Keele, where he was arrested.

Toronto Police Chief James Ramer said in a tweet late Wednesday afternoon two arrests were made and one firearm was recovered from “this shooting incident between people in 2 cars in broad daylight and heavy traffic.”

He added: “Officers’ quick action prevented innocent members of the public from getting hurt.”

Police are looking for anyone who may have dashcam video.
