Tulsi Gabbard said earlier this week she is leaving the Democratic Party because she claims it’s “now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness.”
Gabbard was the U.S. representative for Hawaii’s 2nd congressional district from 2013 to 2021.
Gabbard, 41, said on Tuesday Democrats are dividing the country “by racializing every issue, stoking anti-white racism” and “actively working to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution.”
Gabbard’s video statement alleged that today’s Democrats are “hostile to people of faith and spirituality.”
She was also the first Hindu member of Congress and also the first Samoan-American voting member of Congress. She was a candidate for the Democratic nomination in the 2020 United States presidential election.
Gabbard called on her fellow “independent-minded Democrats” to leave the party too.
Gabbard suspended her presidential campaign in March 2020 and endorsed Joe Biden. She served in the House from 2013 to 2021 and as the vice chair of the Democratic National Committee from 2013 to 2016.
Since her tweets, Gabbard’s announcement has been championed by some, mocked by others.
“Tulsi Gabbard announcing she’s leaving the Democratic Party is sort of like someone you’ve already broken up with saying ‘that’s it, we’re through,’” said news legend Dan Rather on Twitter.
Gabbard has been a staple on FOX News with potential Republican presidential nominee Tucker Carlson, often co-hosting his show. Newsmax has mentioned Gabbard as a vice-presidential option should Donald Trump run again.
Gabbard also announced this week her new podcast, “The Tulsi Gabbard Show” on Apple Podcasts.
