Oh, baby!
When it comes to the top 100 names for boys and girls in Canada in 2022, Noah and Olivia topped the charts, respectively, according to parenting website babycenter.com.
Noah has Hebrew origins, means “comfort” and “rest,” and is ruled by the number two in numerology, meaning a great gift for diplomacy and avoiding conflict. It’s the No. 1 moniker for boys for the second year in a row, according to the website.
Olivia, meanwhile, having moved down to No. 3 in 2021, rebounded up two rungs to top the names list in 2022 for girls.
Olivia is a Latin moniker, from the word olivam, meaning “olive tree,” while Shakespeare used it as the name of a countess in his comedy Twelfth Night.
Meanwhile, Liam and Jackson, two longstanding boys names in the top 10, have switched places in 2022 with Liam now second-most popular, while Jackson is third.
New to the top 10 names for boys are Luca, which climbed nine rungs to seventh, and James, which moved eight places to land at No. 9.
Over on the list for girls, six of 2021’s top 10 remained popular in 2022 with Sophia holding at second place and Emma and Lily advancing to fourth and seventh place, respectively. Charlotte stayed at number six.
Of the four newcomers to the top 10 names for girls — Ava, Hannah, Nora and Isabella — Ava had the shortest climb eight places to fifth.
