"God sent her," elderly Walmart worker helped by stranger's campaign

Sometimes social media does some actual good.

Take, for example, the 82-year-old Walmart employee, who had to work her shifts with the help of a cane at the store in Apache Junction, Ariz.

Carman Kelly was filmed on the job by a stranger, Liz Rizzo, who made a Tik Tok video about her predicament.

After being viewed more than 15 million times since its Dec. 12 posting, Rizzo has been able to raise $133,000 U.S. for Kelly according to ABC News.

“Look at this woman having to work here at Walmart with her cane,” begins Rizzo before asking Kelly her name, age and whether she had to work.

“I’m gonna put you on TikTok. I’m gonna make sure this goes viral and get you some help, Carman.”

Rizzo told Good Morning America that she asked Kelly’s permission to share the video beforehand and because her medical bills came to $10,000 US that was the goal on a GoFundMe page she set up.

Imagine Kelly’s surprise then when, over 9,000 donations later, the total was more than $133,000 US.

“I’ve been having a really hard time money wise, medical wise and I’ve fallen quite a few times over the past year and so I had some big hospital bills from that,” Kelly told GMA.

But now, Kelly says, “I’m going to be able to pay off all my bills, get a new place to live, hopefully [an] assisted living place to just help me with life.”

Rizzo, who volunteers with the AJ Mounted Rangers, a nonprofit that helps children in area, told GMA she hopes her TikTok video can inspire others to “just be kind.”

Kelly, who had been working at that particular WalMart for nearly two years, calls Rizzo a “guardian angel.”

“I can never ever, ever thank her enough for doing this,” she said. “I mean, she was a total stranger to me and it’s like God sent her to me.”
