On Tuesday, a nobody named Randall McKenzie became somebody in the chilling fashion that seems bountiful in the third decade of the century.
The 25-year-old, of Hamilton, Kingston, Six Nations and points in between, stands charged with first-degree murder in connection with the “ambush” slaying of OPP Const. Grzegorz “Greg” Pierzchala, 28.
A woman named Brandi Stewart-Sperry, 30, of Hamilton and the system, is also charged with first-degree murder.
Both suspects had been wanted by cops: Him for skipping a court appearance for assaulting a Hamilton police officer and getting pinched with a gun (he has two-lifetime firearms bans). She for breaching conditions.
There is also the stellar cast of characters, featuring McKenzie’s baby mama, a justice system that is at best laughable, raunchy photos, low-rent bravado and people who disdain the accused killer.
Just hours after Pierzchala was murdered, the scene unfolded at West Haldimand General Hospital where McKenzie was welcomed by supporters as he was wheeled in.
“Randall, we’re here baby, we’re right here. We’re right here kid, we’re right here son,” one says in a video posted by Yakowennahskats Media.
McKenzie, apparently not quite grasping the gravity of the situation, yells at photographers: “F— you goof.”
His baby mama and former girlfriend screams: “STOP TAKING PICTURES.”
On her Facebook page, the ex-gal pal now apparently in a relationship with another man, offers a defence of McKenzie. It is … outlandish.
She writes: “Or maybe the cop shouldn’t have beat the f— out of him and than [sic] walk away with his back turned? The cop beat him up and than [sic] got shot (happy face inserted). And who said it was Randall? What about the female [sic]? Were you there, no … shut the f— up.”
The baby mama is roundly slammed by friends and strangers alike for jumping over the boards to defend McKenzie.
Brandi Stewart-Sperry has about five different Facebook accounts covering her teen years to adulthood.
The photos show a roller-coaster ride through life, every bump showing on her once pretty face.
In one of the earliest photos, people unload with allegations of crack cocaine use, thieving and other, more sordid allegations.
The woman who today stares back from a police mugshot with eyes as old as tombs, looked very different once. And she’d flaunt it. Photos of Stewart-Sperry in Christmas lingerie, fishnet stockings and other snapshots adorn the page.
And there are threats with one man writing: “U r gonna get it crack whore needle junkie.”
A walk through the greasy world of Randall McKenzie and Brandi Stewart-Sperry is not for the faint of heart. Packed with BS bravado and a decidedly absent moral compass.
One woman on Facebook takes McKenzie’s baby mama to task over her absurd antics. It bears repeating and it is gratifying to know that there are people hugely younger than me who are as mortified by what happened in Hagersville as retired cops.

She wrote: “Man, we are in our 20’s. How the f— are you still on that “free broski, free my fam” bulls—. Your friend [allegedly] MURDERED somebody’s child. I’m not even going to say “a cop” because he was way more than just a f—— cop.”
The young woman continues: “He was someone’s kid, someone’s life, and your friend [allegedly] took that away from him, how does your brain actually work to be able to say “nah fam he doesn’t deserve jail time free my bro fr”…. PLEASE.”
Exactly.
