Winnipeg Jets use complete performance to stomp Canucks

The Winnipeg Jets took a blow and delivered another on Saturday night.

On the same day they learned that former captain Blake Wheeler and defenceman Nate Schmidt would both be out of the lineup for at least a month, the Jets laid a beating on the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena.

It was never close and the Jets won it 5-1, with the Canucks breaking Connor Hellebuyck’s shutout late in the third period.

The Jets got two goals from the fourth line (Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Sam Gagner), two from the defence (Neal Pionk, Kyle Capobianco) and one from sniper Kyle Connor as they cruised to victory and improved their record to 20-9-1.

Bo Horvat broke the shutout but the Canucks were thoroughly beaten by that point.

The Jets outshot the Canucks 27-23 but for much of the game, it was a broader disparity in Winnipeg’s favour.

Connor Hellebuyck finished with 22 saves, as did Spencer Martin of the Canucks.

The Jets move on to play the Kraken in Seattle on Sunday.
