Friends and acquaintances are rallying to support the grieving family of a man shot and killed in front of his five-year-old daughter on Dec. 30 in an apartment’s underground parking garage in Scarborough.
Gars-Ara Kourjakian, 34, of Toronto, was gunned down at about 5:30 p.m. in an apartment building near Birchmount Rd. and Sheppard Ave. E.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene after police scrambled to the building.
Monday, a GoFundMe set up to help his heartbroken wife, Dzila Kougoumdjian, and their daughter had raised about $2,000 since being established Sunday by her boss.
“Your generosity to share and to donate will definitely help her to get through this difficult time,” wrote Brando Le on the fundraising page.
Le also provided some detail about what happened before the crime.
“Prior to the incident, Gars-Ara and his daughter went to Montreal to visit his family on Christmas for a week while Dzila stayed in Toronto for work,” Le wrote.
“That Friday was the day Gars-Ara came back from the trip, Dzila asked me to leave work early to meet with them, but she never saw her husband alive again.”

Another friend of Kourjakian posted an honour to his friend on Instagram.
“You will never be forgotten brother — rest in peace. Gun violence needs to stop, and more peace in needed in the world,” posted Rahim Ladhajuma.
The investigation into the crime continues. But the trauma faced by Kourjakian’s wife and daughter is deep and just beginning.
“He was in the car with their five-year-old daughter in their residence’s underground parking when the suspect(s) fired the shot and killed him right in front of their daughter, and while Dzila, his wife was still at work,” wrote Le.
No suspect information has been provided by investigators so far.
