A 44-year-old Saskatoon man is facing several charges after an investigation by the Saskatchewan Internet Child Exploitation Unit.
The unit, which includes investigators from the RCMP and city police in Saskatoon, Regina and Prince Albert, charged Jeric Villareal Mendoza on Jan. 5 after police began an investigation related to child luring, sexual assault, sexual interference and child pornography on Dec. 22, 2022.
Investigators searched a home in Saskatoon on Jan. 5, Saskatoon police said in a media release on Friday.
Mendoza is charged with one count each of sexual assault, sexual interference, accessing child porn and making child porn. He faces two counts each of possession of child porn and child luring.
According to ICE, the offences occurred between Sept. 1 and Dec. 22, involving one child.
Mendoza appeared in Saskatoon provincial court on Friday and remains in custody pending his next appearance on Jan. 10.
The ICE unit investigates online crimes involving abuse and exploitation of children.
