TTC riders 'randomly' assaulted by group of teen girls

Investigators want to talk to TTC riders who were “randomly” attacked by a group of teenage girls on Dec. 17 – hours before a 59-year-old man was swarmed and stabbed to death downtown.

Toronto Police say the assaults occurred on the TTC line 1 — at Queen’s Park, St. Patrick, Osgoode, St. Andrew and Union Stations — between 10 p.m. and midnight.

“A group of eight to 10 teenage girls randomly assaulted several people,” police said in a statement released Wednesday. “Officers are urging anyone who may have been a victim to come forward and speak with investigators.”

Police have not said if these assaults are connected to Ken Lee’s murder.

But it was around 12:15 a.m. on Dec. 18 that he was swarmed by a group of teenage girls, beaten and stabbed to death at York St. and University Ave.

It’s believed Lee was killed protecting his girlfriend from a group of rowdy girls who were trying to steal her bottle of alcohol and other property.

Eight teenage girls — three 13-year-olds, three 14-year-olds and two 16-year-olds — have been arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

The Toronto Sun has previously reported that the same group of accused girls was believed to have been involved in two other belligerent confrontations downtown — one before and one after Lee was attacked. But those incidents were not thought to be violent in nature.

Anyone with information is urged to call police at 416-808-5200.
