Mikko Rantanen Anytime Goal Scorer (-110, PointsBet) Wager: 1.1 units to win 1 unit
If you asked any hockey fan who the third leading goal scorer in the NHL is this season, not sure how many would say Mikko Rantanen, but his 47 goals put him right behind David Pastrnak’s 48 and 11 behind Connor McDavid’s league-leading 58.
Rantanen has been on a mission lately, with goals in five straight games.
Tonight, the Avs will host a Pittsburgh Penguins team allowing 3.7 goals per game over their last 10. Part of it has to do with their poor goaltending as Tristan Jarry and Casey DeSmith have GAA over 3.00.
Rantanen has also performed much better at home this season, with 28 of his goals at Ball Arena.
Denis Malgin Anytime Goal Scorer (+450, DraftKings) Wager: 1 unit to win 4.5 units
This is a play on the fact that Malgin will be skating on the top line with Rantanen and Nathan MacKinnon.
In his last 10 games, Malgin has found another gear with five goals. He’s not going to continue to keep up that goal-scoring pace, but the crafty forward should get some looks alongside the two best forwards on the Avs.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins Over 0.5 Power Play Points (+135, DraftKings) Wager: 1 unit to win 1.35 units
It’s a good power play matchup tonight in Edmonton between the Oilers and Coyotes.
We’ll start on the Oilers’ side, where Ryan Nugent-Hopkins is having a career season with 86 points (32 on the power play) and counting. Skating alongside Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl will have that kind of effect.
The Coyotes’ penalty kill has improved throughout the season, but they are still a group that should not be feared, especially when we’re talking about Edmonton’s league-best power play.
RNH is in a great spot to rack up a point tonight.
Juuso Valimaki Over 0.5 Power Play Points (+800, FanDuel) Wager: 1 unit to win 8 units
Admittedly, this is a shot-in-the-dark type of play, but it is hard to pass on that number for someone skating on a top power play against one of the worst penalty kills in the NHL.
The Oilers’ 75.7% success rate is the eighth-worst in the league this year, and while the Coyotes’ power play (19.2%) is mediocre, it’s still better than eight other teams in the NHL.
Valimaki has been a revelation since going to Arizona with a career-high 31 points (11 on the power play) in 67 games.
