Hamilton Police have arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with a homicide in a homeless encampment in the city’s east end.
Cops say that on Monday, officers received information regarding a suspicious death. Police found a body in a tent near the railway tracks in the Lottridge St. and Landsdowne Ave. area.
Police identified the victim on Tuesday afternoon as Stanley Gordon Waite, 32, of Hamilton. An autopsy was being performed at the Centre of Forensic Sciences in Toronto.
The manner of death is not being released.
Devon Pastoric, 32, also from the Hamilton area, has been charged with second-degree murder. Police are not looking for any other suspects.
The Hamilton Police Forensic Unit will remain on scene at the Lottridge St. site throughout the day and detectives continue to canvass the area for video.
Stanley’s family has requested privacy as they mourn.
The murder is only the second of 2022 in Hamilton following record-shattering years for homicide in 2020 and 2021.
On March 6, 39-year-old father-of-two Shane Grenier was tossed from a black BMW. He had been shot in the head.
Owen Nathaniel Siverthorne, 21, and Janeil Gordon, 21, both of Hamilton, are each charged with second-degree murder.
